Island promoter reaches new heights with Spinnaker Tower silent disco

AN ISLAND promoter has reached new heights after hosting a silent disco at the top of the Emirates Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth.

The sold out event was organised by University of Portsmouth student 21 year old Josh Peverley, who started planning events when he was 13.

The disco, held on February 17, was the second of it’s kind, after last year’s pilot event sold out in a day.

This year, 200 partygoers watched three Island DJ’s — DJ Crabbie, DJ Stu Murray and DJ Omar — flex their skills at the top of the Tower.

Josh, from Tennyson Road, Yarmouth, said: “It genuinely couldn’t have gone better last Friday. Last time was a learning curve, this time we knew what to expect, and have had nothing but great compliments in emails, social media and phone calls. I can’t thank the tower, the DJ’s, the door staff, the bar staff and everyone that worked with me to make it such a friendly and successful event.”

He added: “The idea actually came from visiting the Tower as a tourist on a day trip to Portsmouth and I stood there and looked out across the city and thought ‘this would be a cool place to hold a party.”

In the future, the promoter is looking to launch a survey to find out what young people want from nightlife on the Island.

If you fancy making the ferry journey over to Portsmouth, the next disco will be held on October 20.
